Joseph Osby Johnston, 86, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 28, 1926 in Kansas City, MO to Osby E. and Marie (Harris) Johnston.
During WWII, Joe served in the Philippines as an M.P. After the war, he worked 28 years for the Kansas City Star as a Pressman, and then completed his career as the printer for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #71 and was a member and active in the choirs at St. Augustine’s and later St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
Joe was preceded in death by a brother, John Johnston; a sister, Geraldine Walton, and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pat Johnston of the home; children, Kathy King and husband Mike of Rogersville, MO, Jeanne Snell and husband Randy of Raymore, MO, Donna Johnston of Springfield, MO, Mike Johnston and wife Glenda of Gardner, KS, Theresa Nickle and husband Terry of Raymore, MO; grandchildren, Aaron King and Anna King-Algeo, Eric and Megan Snell, Nathan and Taylor Glessner, Connor and Corey Johnston, and Casey Nickle; his sister, Bernetta Barbieri, and many nieces and nephews.
The Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm, Thursday, February 7th at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO where the family will receive friends following the rosary until 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4101 E. 105th Terrace, Kansas City, MO. Interment with military honors will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
