Virginia Willoughby, 92, of Prairie Village KS, passed away at Claridge Court on May 28, 2013. A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost Ave, KCMO. A private inurnment will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
Virginia was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Smithyn “Brickhouse” and Lillian C. (Shirk) Wilson, on January 6, 1921. She grew up in Independence, MO and attended William Chrisman High School. She attended Gulf Park College from 1938 to 1940; and later graduated from Cornell University in Attica, NY in 1942. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Social Sorority. Lillian married Jean B. Willoughby, M.D. on October 25, 1942.
She was a member of the Metropolitan Medical Alliance, a former member of Research Hospital Auxiliary, a member of Country Club Christian Church and a member of the Cornell Alumni Club. She and her husband enjoyed playing bridge and achieved the status of Master Bridge Players.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jean Willoughby in 1998.
She is survived by her three children, Chris W. Willoughby; Stuart L. Willoughby and Tiffany J. Boland; six grandchildren, Tyler Willoughby, Teddy Willoughby, Heather Boland, James Boland, Christy Willoughby and Benton Willoughby; and one great-grandchild, Gray Willoughby.
