Thelma F. Cosgrove DeFries

Thelma F. Cosgrove DeFries, a longtime Kansas City, MO area resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 14th at Leeâs Summit Medical Center. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 18th from 9:30 to 10:30am, at Our Lady of the Presentation Church, 130 NW Murray Road, Leeâs Summit, MO 64081 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimerâs Association, 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208 or to Our Lady of the Presentation Church.
Thelma was born April 29, 1917 in Independence, KS to John and Kathleen Cosgrove. She was a Manager of Center High School Cafeteria for several years from where she retired. Thelma was a member of the Catholic Parishes of St. Augustine and Christ the King before moving to John Knox Care Center in Leeâs Summit, MO where she spent the last nine years of her life.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Richard Edwin DeFries; as well as four sisters and one brother. Survivors include her six children, Patricia Clingenpeel, Carol Moore, Diane Russell (Mike), Richard DeFries (Linda), Jim DeFries (Sharon), George DeFries (Sharon); two brothers, William Cosgrove and Joseph Cosgrove (Margaret) as well as 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Thelma was a wonderful mother and grandmother, an excellent baker and a talented seamstress. She carried her wonderful sense of humor and her feisty attitude to her last days. Her engaging smile with those sparkling blue eyes, reassuring words in times of stress and daily living will never be forgotten.
