Arden M. Fisher Obituary

Arden Irene Mueller Fisher was a native St. Louisan who loved her city. A graduate of Washington University, she received her Master’s degree from Indiana University and became a counselor at Stephens College and, later, at the St. Louis Community College at Forest Park. She died recently after a brief illness. When she married in 1981, she and her husband, Harry Fisher, supported many St. Louis institutions. They both loved Webster University. Its Music School gave them years of happiness, which they acknowledged by sponsoring scholarships for promising young musicians. They loved the classical music provided by KFUO Radio and KETC TV. They were avid theatergoers, particularly fond of amateur shows, and often attended plays at the Rep, Stages and Webster. Arden volunteered for more than 30 years at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Her area of expertise was trees, and she was responsible for the program of tagging and donating trees for people who wished to make gifts to the garden. She was an inspired gardener herself, and always had beautiful flowers growing in her yard and in the Fisher house. Her yard was also a welcome haven for birds, which were a constant delight to her. She fed them and enjoyed watching them as the seasons changed. She loved all animals and was especially fond of dogs, who had a warm place in her heart and home. Arden was a generous spirit and took immense pleasure from doing things for her family. She loved to cook and bake for others and to play cards and games. From tennis to Bridge to Scrabble, she was a fierce competitor with quick wit, and was always ready for a social afternoon or evening with family or friends. An Anglophile who appreciated a good cup of tea, she was a bright light full of intelligence and kindness. She will be greatly missed. Arden touched many lives and made friends everywhere she went. She is survived by numerous devoted family members, including her loving brother Glenn Mueller of Kirkwood; her step-children Diane Perkinson, Portland, Ore., and Hal Fisher, Kansas City; as well as her four grandchildren, Joy and Cole Perkinson and Emma and Lilly Fisher. In lieu of flowers, please consider commemorating Arden by supporting two organizations she loved, the Missouri Botanical Garden or the Community Music School of Webster University.
