Memorial funeral services for William C. ?Bill? Cannon, 73, of Scottsbluff who died Wednesday (April 25, 2007) at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, will be held Saturday (April 28, 2007) at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Brad Gustafson officiating. A private family inurnment will precede the funeral. At Bill?s request, his remains were cremated. Jolliffe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials have been established to the church, Oregon Trail Community Foundation, Regional West Medical Center, or to the donor's choice. William Carter Cannon was born on July 13, 1933 at Scottsbluff to M.C. 'Shorty' and Catherine (Carter) Cannon. The family home was in Mitchell. Bill graduated from Mitchell High School in 1951. He played football and basketball during high school and was on the football team that went undefeated in 1950. He was a delegate to the Cornhusker Boy's State program in Lincoln in 1950. He received a Bachelor's degree from the College of Business at the University of Nebraska in 1956. While there, he joined the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, and became a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity. He participated in the U.S. Army ROTC, graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant. He married Ann C. Yeakley on June 22, 1956 at Atlanta, Georgia. They moved to Augusta, Georgia, where Bill served in the Army Military Police Unit for six months. He continued his military service in Scottsbluff by serving in the Army Reserves for several years, attaining the rank of Captain. He and Ann moved to Mitchell in 1957 where he joined his brother Ted, in the B&C Motor Company Ford car dealership. In 1964, the brothers bought the Ford Dealership in Scottsbluff and named it Cannon Brothers Ford. In 1968, they built a new Ford and Toyota facility at the corner of 20th Street and the Highway 26 bypass. They did business there until the dealership was sold in 2001. Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff where he served as an elder and deacon, Scottsbluff-Gering Rotary Club and Past President, Panhandle Shrine Club and Past President, and the Scottsbluff Chamber of Commerce. Bill was also a member of the Nebraska New Car and Truck Dealer?s Association and served on the board of Directors and became President in 1992. He served as Chairman of the Rocky Mountain Ford Dealers Advertising Association in 1984. He was on the Regional West Medical Center Board and served as Chairman in 1995. Bill and his brother Ted received the Twin Cities Development Award for Business and Industry in 1993. Bill loved to visit with people, and he helped many people along the way. His favorite pastimes were racquetball, sailing, and golf, having scored a hole-in-one on #7 at the Scottsbluff Country Club. Bill is survived by his wife Ann, of fifty years, of Scottsbluff; sons John C. Cannon (Staci) of Kearney, Robert Y. Cannon of Hudson, New Hampshire, and daughter-in-law Teri Cannon of Bow, New Hampshire; grandchildren A.J. Cannon, Stephen Cannon, Andrew Cannon, and Katie Cannon; brother Ted C. Cannon of Scottsbluff and his children Christy (Henry) Jay, and Shelly (David) Stansbury and their families; sister-in- law Milly Elwell and her children Ann (Ben) Darling, Dr. Meg (Dr. Brad) Ropp, and John Elwell and their families; and brother-in-law Dr. John (Carolyn) Yeakley and their children Jenn (Chris) Haberbosh, Debbie (Mike) Marsicano, and Jeff (Amanda) Yeakley and their families. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Lou Cannon, nephew Scott Cannon, and great nephew John Ropp.
