Carlton R. Newell, (Cappy) aged 87, of Bedford, NH passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 4, 2012 in Meredith, NH after suffering many years from Parkinson’s disease. His loving wife and family surrounded him until his death. Cappy was a deeply devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grand father. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Grace Trask Newell, and his three daughters and their husband’s; Nancy N. and Nick VanLoan of Webster; Kathryn G. Newell Coupe and Ernest Coupe, Jr. of Plymouth; and Patricia and Robert Bourque of Holderness. He also leaves 7 grand children, 1 great granddaughter, his bothers, Guy J. Newell, Jr. (Florida) and Leonard Newell (Manchester) and his sister, Shirley (Newell) Myrdek (Hooksett), as well as, many loving nephews and nieces. Born in Manchester, NH, on January 23, 1925, Carlton was the son of Guy J. Newell, Sr. and Mabel (Woodin) Newell Currier. Cappy was a Veteran of the US Coast Guard, in WWII. He served in the American, European, African-Middle Eastern areas and the Asiatic Pacific. Cappy graduated from Central High School, Manchester, NH and he received his education from Hessers College and the Amos Tuck School of Credit and Financial Management, at Dartmouth College. In his early years he started his career at the International Shoe Company, Manchester, and tenured 40 years as a business executive and VP of marketing/sales for Kalwall Corporation, Manchester, NH. He was a very active community member as a Leader for the Boy Scouts of America, Superintendent of Sunday Schools, at the South Main Street Congregational Church in Manchester, and an elder of the Bedford Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Lafayette Lodge, Bektash Temple Masonic Order. Cappy was an active member of the Manchester Hanger QB and Post 8401 of the VFW, Bedford, NH. He will always be remembered for his avid enthusiasm for life, the wonderful times he spent with his family, his passion for his business affairs and love of all sports. Cappy enjoyed boating, skiing, tennis, and flying- around the countryside as a Private Pilot. All those who loved and knew him will dearly miss him.
