Edna O'Brien

Edna O’Brien, 98, of Campton, passed away on March 5, 2017 at her home. She was born to Harold and Aldena (Simons) Gallagher on September 22, 1918 in Inverness, Quebec, Canada. The family moved to Plymouth, NH and eventually settled in Campton in 1936. Edna attended the Plymouth schools and graduated from Plymouth High School. She worked for many years at O’Brien’s Department store in downtown Plymouth and then ran the Jewel Box until her retirement. She was married to William O’Brien in 1951 celebrating over 30 years of marriage until his death in 1981. Edna was very active in her church and community. As a member of the Campton Congregational Church, she served as a Deacon, sang in the choir, and participated in the Ladies Guild. One of her favorite roles was arranging flowers for the church. Edna was elected to the Campton Elementary School board where she represented the community for 15 years as well as serving on the SAU #48 Board. Edna was honored to receive the Boston Post Cane in 2015 from the Campton Historical Society in recognition of being the oldest resident of Campton. Edna enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens which she worked until her mid-90s! She enjoyed doing crewel work, painting, quilting, doing crafts, bird watching, and outdoor activities. She loved to travel whether it be a day trip leaf peeping, a visit to relatives in Vermont and Canada or going to Egypt, Scotland, England on tours. Members of her family include her son, Cabot and wife, Vivian, of Campton and grandchildren Colin Sang and Hayley Min. Family and friends will honor and remember Edna’s life by gathering for a Funeral Service in the Campton Congregational Church, 495 NH Route 175, Campton, NH on Saturday, April 22nd at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Russell C. Petrie, Pastor will officiate. Burial will take place in the Blair Cemetery.
