Mary B. MacLeod Obituary

Mary Buckland MacLeod passed away peacefully on November 30, 2020 at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care in Lebanon, New Hampshire at the age of sixty-seven. Mary’s last few months were marked by her remarkable courage and strength of spirit. Mary was welcomed to this life on September 28, 1953 by her parents Lee and Alida Buckland. Some might remember her as the little blond toddler in the playpen at Buckland Flowers, on Emerson Street in Plymouth where her parents ran their home-based florist business. It was here, in the warmth and fellowship of a small-town neighborhood that Mary grew up and developed her passion for family and friends and her ethic for hard work. After returning from service to the country in the Army, Mary began her career in real estate. She held both a New Hampshire State Realtor License and a New Hampshire Insurance License. She served the community as the founder and owner of Strawberry Lane Real Estate and Insurance in Campton for many years. She was a member of the Waterville Valley Chamber of Commerce. In 1982, Mary met the love of her life, Bob MacLeod and they were married in 1986. Mary commented many times that Bob was her best friend. They traveled extensively, enjoying cruises to the Caribbean and adventures abroad. Their trips to Geneva and Italy were especially memorable times together. She was grateful to have Bob by her side for thirty-four years of friendship, commitment and partnership through all of life’s fun and challenges. Holding a child’s hand in hers made her happy and Mary was a devoted mother to her son, Adam. Adam’s children, Bently and Braelynn made Grammy’s life complete. When she was not working, she could often be found snuggled on the couch with her grandchildren or her beloved dogs watching a good movie. Mary was an outgoing and social person. She enjoyed lunches with her classmates from high school and gathering with friends at The Waterville Estates Clubhouse. People were drawn to her because she was a genuine kind soul and always found the good in others. She recently expressed how grateful she has been to have so many good folks in her life. Mary was so many things to so many people. It is with a heavy heart that we say farewell and godspeed to our wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend. Those who will miss Mary include her husband, Bob MacLeod, Ph.D. of Thornton, her son, Adam MacLeod of Thornton, her grandchildren, Bently Woodward and Braelynn MacLeod of Campton, and her mother, Alida Buckland of Franconia. Mary also leaves behind two brothers, Jim Buckland and his wife Maureen of Holderness and Robert Buckland and his wife, Kathy of Plymouth. Mary’s brother and sister-in-law, Yael Schwartz and Yuri Rothman of Mt. Pleasant South Carolina will miss her dearly as will her sister-in-law, Barbara Buckland Jaquith of Conyers, Georgia. Mary also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who have taken the Buckland and MacLeod name into the world with honor. Coco, Lily and Osiris will especially miss the loving attention of their dog-mom. Mary was predeceased by her Dad, Lee Buckland who she adored for the good and generous man that he was. Mary was made in her father’s image and their reunion will be joyful. Her simple kind nature will be her legacy and will serve as an encouragement to each of us to cherish the gift of life until it is our turn to give it back. There will be no calling hours. A service will be held later at the convenience of the family. If friends or family would like to make a memorial donation, please consider the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care Gift Fund for the good work that they do. or 150 Loop Road, Lebanon, NH. 03756
