Donald Craig Young, of Litchfield, NH, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 14, 2018. He was born on April 1, 1938 in Manchester, NH to the late Donald and Evelyn Young. Donald served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and was stationed at Grenier Field in Manchester. After his discharge from the service, he worked for Barretto Granite in Milford and later had his own business where he operated a heavy equipment repair and trucking company. A longtime resident of Litchfield, Donald served as Lieutenant for the Litchfield Police Department during the 1970’s. Over the years, he could often be found behind the wheel of his Autocar, skillfully rigging, hauling and relocating buildings. Don also enjoyed spending time at the local fairs, tractor pulling with one of his many antique farm tractors, his favorite one being Oliver 99. In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by his wife, Elaine, who passed away in 2009 and a son Thomas, who passed away in 1998. He is survived by a daughter, Debora Stewart and her husband Timothy of Hooksett, a son Daniel Young and his wife Heather of Litchfield, one grandson, Matthew Stewart, a brother James Young of Hampton and a sister Judith Smith of California as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. SERVICES: There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 12:00 PM at the Hillcrest Cemetery on Hillcrest Road in Litchfield. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately after.
