Obituary for Jan Jansma

Jan Jansma, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday June 7th 2012 at the Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice located at Virtua Memorial Hospital Mount Holly, NJ. Born in Arum-Friesland Holland, he resided in North Jersey before moving to Homestead at Mansfield located in Columbus NJ. Jan enlisted in The United States Army in 1952 and served during the Korean War; he was Honorable discharged in 1954 with the rank of Corporal. After the war, he was employed with The United Brotherhood of Carpenters local 15 in Hackensack NJ. He retired in 1992 after 38 years of dedicated service. Jan was extremely proud of his Heritage and his hometown located in Holland where he grew-up as a child. He enjoyed trips back to Arum and Friesland, winters in Florida or observing wildlife and nature. Jan was an amazing carpenter, avid car buff and football fan. He was also member of the Bowling club at Homestead. But his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, he was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and will be missed.

The son of the late Henry and Martha Jansma, he is survived by his beloved wife Shirley Jansma, his son and daughter-in-law, Henry P. and Barbara T. Jansma, his daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Phil Dazo, his grandchildren, John C. and Sarah Jansma, Nicholas A. Jansma, Melissa A. Dazo, Steven P. Dazo, Edward P. Dazo.


A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Friday June 15th 2012 11:30 am at the Bordentown Home for Funerals 40 Crosswicks St., Bordentown with Rev. Dana Eglinton of the Jacksonville Presbyterian Church Calling hours will be held on Friday morning 10:00 am until time of service. Interment will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jan’s memory to Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053
