Robert A Nelson Obituary

On Tuesday, November 29th the world lost a wonderful man. Robert “Bob” A. Nelson passed peacefully at RWJ Compassionate Care. Born on September 2, 1921 he was a lifelong resident of Bordentown, NJ. Known to many as “Pop”, he will be missed by the many lives he touched in his 95 years, and by all the friends who considered him family and remember him for the things he loved. • Going to the bus stop every morning to watch the neighborhood kids get on the bus. He referred to all of them as his great grandchildren; moreover, he was an avid supporter of children’s charities. • Vacations on Cape Cod with Esther surf fishing and the looking beach glass. • His love of diners and New England Clam Chowder (the only chowder). • Could make a mean muddled old fashioned. • Passionate about music, he enjoyed listening to his thousands of albums (yes, albums you put on a record player) • Babying his rows of Peonies and even at 95, cutting his own grass. A WWII Veteran of the US ARMY, member of the American legion, and the oldest living member of the Bordertown Deer club. Pop will be remembered by so many for the man who hung the American flag every day to show his pride for our country. He worked at Roebling Steel on the railroad and used his train engine to close and lock the gates when the plant closed… He went on retire from Suburban Propane. Now he is reunited with his beloved wife, Esther, his loving son Robert, as well as with his parents, grandparents and brothers. He is survived by his grandsons Douglas (Shelley) and Daniel (Cindy) Nelson of Bordentown, nieces Nancy, Ruth and Judy, Nephew Kevin (Doe), and many other loved family members. Pop, we miss you every day! With love and so much more… Memorial donations may be made in Robert’s name to either of the following: Shiners Hospital for Children 2900 N Rocky Point Drive Tampa, FL 33607 www.shinershospitalforchildren.org American Legion Post 26 Ervin V Hamilton Post 26 PO Box 548.
