Sophie Marie Mladenetz Obituary

Dateline Bordentown Sophie Marie Voscek Mladenetz, 94 of Bordentown Township, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2017 with her children at her side. Sophie was one of eight children born in Jessup, PA to Valent and Barbara Radecky Voscek, immigrants from Czechoslovakia. Sophie’s family moved to Trenton and she was their first child to graduate from high school, juggling evening school with full time work. Her pursuit of education for herself and strong work ethic were transferred to her children as she encouraged them scholastically to always achieve their best. Sophie’s life was all about her family. She was married 66 years to her beloved George who died in 2014. Her pride and joy were her four children and nine grandchildren who she adored and prayed for always. Sophie loved to bake and bestowed her Christmas cookies on her family and many lucky friends. She maintained a lovely garden with George, a hobby they enjoyed while she was not working in the cafeteria at Rider University or he at the Trentonian. However, nothing surpassed Sophie’s dedication to her Church, St Mary’s Byzantine Catholic, and the Sisters of that community. Sophie and George led the Annual Pilgrimage to Uniontown, PA, the home of the Sisters of St Basil, for 38 years. She also promoted the Franciscans in their outreach to offer Masses for special needs. Sophie will be forever remembered and cherished by her children and loving grandchildren: Barbara Weber and Tom Berry and children, John and Angela and husband, Brogan Hetrick; George and Ilona Mladenetz and sons, Brian and Greg; Bernadette and Tom Crawford and children, Elizabeth and husband, Grant Gilmore and Stephen; and Tom and Mary Jane Mladenetz and children, Tom, Tim and Christina Rose. Also surviving her is a sister, Barbara Ackerman, in addition to many nieces and nephews. Finally her two loyal and devoted caregivers, Bogumila Konopska and Jenina Ogrodnick were Sophie’s two angels, caring for her and George. Relatives and friends are invited to share their condolences with the family on Wednesday afternoon from 4:00 – 7:00pm concluding with a prayer service and on Thursday morning 8:00-9:00am at the Bordentown Home for Funerals, 40 Crosswicks Street, Bordentown City. Office of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday January 5th, at 10 a.m., St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church, Grand and Malone Streets, Trenton. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery #2 in Hamilton. Memorial contributions in Sophie’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s of the Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, 411 Adeline Street, Trenton, NJ 08611; the Sisters of St. Basil, Mt. St. Macrina, 500 West Main St, Box 878, Uniontown, PA 15401-0878; or to the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) of Mercer County, 453 Yardville-Allentown Road, Yardville, NJ 08620.
