Elizabeth Duschl Obituary

Elizabeth Duschl, 1930-2019 Elizabeth Duschl (nee Woodruff) known to her family and friends as Betty and to her ''Our Lady of the Valley'' classmates in Orange, NJ as ''Chuck'', succumbed on Tuesday, September 10 due to complications from a stroke. Betty''s husband Herman Duschl of 70 years was at her side as she peacefully transitioned to the afterlife. Betty is survived by her husband Herman, brother Leo Woodruff, her three children Richard and Stephanie Knight (Dallas, TX), Garry and Linda (Seattle, WA), and Lauren and Ken Hart (Barre, VT); grandchildren Cary Gillett (Columbia, MD), Gretchen Hoffer (Pittsburgh, PA), Rebecca Horrell (London, UK); Heather Saunders (Raleigh, NC); Luke Duschl (Minneapolis, MN); Brett Hart (New York, NY); Shane Hart (London, UK) and great grandchildren Mary Louise Gillett age 9, and Brodie Hoffer age 10 and Ryley Hoffer age 7. While she resided her entire life in Cedar Grove, NJ, Betty nurtured, supported, and instilled in her children and progeny a spirit of wanderlust and accomplishment which has taken them to numerous locations and employment opportunities around the country and the world. Betty and Herman living a robust and fulfilling life side by side doing exactly what they wanted to do! Betty will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, sharp Irish wit. Her prowess as a dance partner with Herman would wow others and band members too, cutting time with the Lindy Hop and doing the jitterbug. She was a voracious reader, diehard Yankees fan, New York Times crossword puzzle and Jeopardy enthusiast. With Herman, they completed some of the most complicated jigsaw puzzles ever seen! Among friends and family, she is renowned for her penmanship and creative letter writing, a skill she first honed as a teenager supporting the troops during WWII. Cooking for Herman, family, and friends brought joy to her heart; Let''s plan to eat in, I''ll fix a meal, she would frequently say. Betty always had a pot of sausage and meatballs for any occasion and passed on the German family recipes, especially sauerbraten. The family enjoyed many meals around the dining room table talking and laughing together where we would pass the towel. Elizabeth Duschl was a strong role model and matriarch to her children, friend to their spouses, wonderful Nani to her grandchildren and always a loving faithful partner to her beloved husband Herman.
