Edward Hannaman Ewing, New Jersey Obituary

Edward Hannaman

Edward Hannaman, 97, passed away peacefully March 31 at Arden Court in Yardley, PA. just 3 months shy of his 98th birthday. Ed was born in Jersey City, where he lived and worked for most of his early life. During World War II, he served as a staff sergeant with Company F of the 305th Infantry Regiment in the 77th Liberty Division. He took part in battles for: the islands of Guam, Leyte, Kerama Retta, Okinawa and was decorated for his heroic action in the battle for Le Shima. After his discharge, he returned to marry his neighborhood sweetheart Betty had a child and he joined the Prudential Insurance Company first as an agent, and later as a Broker, a position he held until his retirement after 37 years of faithful service. Following Betty’s untimely death, he married another local Jersey City girl, Dorothy, and settled in Ridgefield Park with his wife and son. Additionally, Ed spent many years in Jersey City with his third wife Donna and her children and grandchildren. Throughout his life, Ed held a lifelong devotion to playing the guitar, at which he worked in earnest for at least two hours a day. He also had a passion for fishing. He enjoyed many friendships and sought to keep friendships renewed, such as that of his friend Stony (Harold) from the war, who he spent summers fishing with at Lake Champlain until Stoney's death. He also enjoyed fishing in Canada and area lakes with his dear friend Bob Noferi. After retirement, Ed spent 14 active happy years in Leisure Village in Lakewood New Jersey where he continued his passion for the guitar, fishing and woodworking. Even as his health diminished and he required the care of assisted living, Ed remained a person beloved by the staff, even though he was an admitted handful at times. Ed was the youngest son of the late Fred and Bertha Hannaman and is predeceased by his brothers Fred and John, as well as his wives, Betty (Branigan), Dorothy (Hauck) and Donna (Miller). Ed is survived by his son, Edward R., a niece, Karen (Buckler) and great-niece Tracey. In addition, Ed is survived by his step sons Michael and Mark Miller, and step-granddaughter Ashley for whom he held the utmost affection. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Parkside Brenna Cellini Funeral Home at 1584 Parkside Avenue, Ewing Township, NJ 08638 . Calling hours are Tuesday 5-8, with a private ceremony and burial Wednesday in Hillside Cemetery where Ed will be laid to rest with his wife Betty. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to local Hospice providers and Veteran’s Groups. Please visit Edward’s tribute page at www.brennacellinifuneralhomes.com
