Maurice Altomare Obituary

Maurice Altomare, 93, of Lawrenceville, NJ, entered into God’s eternal care on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Compassionate Care Hospice Unit at RWJ at Hamilton surrounded by his loving family. Born in Molfetta, Italy on November 18, 1922, Maurice emigrated to the United States in 1935 and took up residence in Hoboken, NJ. In 1948 he married the love of his life, Lucille and moved to North Bergen, NJ where he resided until 1960. He then moved to the Trenton area to begin teaching for the Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf, where he taught offset printing for 26 years before retiring in 1985. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching from Rutgers University. Maurice was a professional photographer as well as a talented artist who enjoyed creating beautiful oil paintings. Among his many talents he was a tailor, a builder, a singer and a musician who played the mandolin and the guitar. He and his late wife had been active in the St. James Church community, and he was known for his beautiful rendition of God Bless America which he was often requested to sing at many church events. He was a member of the Ewing Senior Citizens and enjoyed spending the day with his friends and having lunch. Maurice was a World War II Army veteran of the tank corps division. Son of the late Giuseppe and Elizabeth (Introna) Altomare; beloved husband of the late Lucille (Guastaferro) Altomare; grandfather of the late Reice Altomare; Maurice is survived by his three sons: Joseph E. Altomare and wife Erica, Carlo Altomare, and Reice Altomare and wife Mary Ann; six grandchildren: Mikal Altomare and wife Rhonda Wetherby, Damon Altomare and wife Laura, Christy Altomare, Carrie and husband John Hirschman, Cyrus Altomare and wife Charlene, and Cassimire Altomare; three great grandchildren: Avery, Benjamin, and Margaret; a brother, Dominick Altomare and wife Arlene; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Catholic funeral services will be held Friday, July 8, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Parkside Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 1584 Parkside Ave., Ewing, NJ 08638. Entombment will follow in Greenwood Mausoleum, 1800 Hamilton Ave., Hamilton, NJ. Calling hours will be held Friday morning from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
