Michael J. Massey, 39, of Freehold Township passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Michael was born, raised, and had lived in Neptune until moving to Freehold Township in 2007. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. Michael was employed by the Ocean Twp. Public Works Department and at the Naval Weapons Station Earle. He was a member of the Ocean Lodge #89, F&AM Masonic Lodge, Spring Lake Heights and an avid golfer. Michael was always drawn to the ocean, but his true love was for his family. Michael is survived by his wife, Courtney Massey; a daughter, Piper Alexis; a son, Caine Michael; his parents, Charles and Jo Massey, Sr. of Neptune; a brother, Chuck Massey of Neptune City; a sister, Michele Massey of Neptune City; his mother-in-law, Janice Piper of Freehold Twp.; his father-in-law, William Piper of New York City; a sister-in-law, Mackenzie Kennett and her husband, Michael of Freehold Twp.; two nephews; and a niece. A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls, at the convenience of the family.
