Edward J. Yuncza, 46, passed away peacefully May 2nd following a brief, courageous battle with cancer. A graduate of Rider University, Ed was a 21 year employee of the Treasury/Finance Division of Princeton University. He is survived by his loving wife, Christina and sons, Kyle, Ryan, Connor and Colin. Parents John & Mary Ellen Yuncza, Christina’s parents, Richard & Cheryl Young, Brother, Kevin, Sister, Patricia and her husband Dolph Geurds, Brother in law & Sister in law, Richard and Kimberly Young and an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, seven nieces and a nephew. Ed’s passion was the martial arts achieving a 6th degree black belt with over 30 years of experience. An inductee into the USA Hall of Fame, Ed trained with many legendary martial artists including: Bill “Superfoot” Wallace, Sang H. Kim, Richard Chun, John Graden, Joe Lewis, Dan Inosanto, Jhoon Rhee, Don “The Dragon” Wilson, Julius Melegrito, Benny “The Jet” Urquidez, George Dillman, Michael Jai White, Jeff Smith, Herb Perez and Paul Vunak. An active tournament competitor for more than 12 years, Ed, at 42, won the Battle of Atlanta, heavyweight sparring division. He has trained thousands of students and reached many more through his books and articles. His book, Sport Karate Point Sparring, has been particularly well received in Great Britain and Japan. Founder of E.Y. Martial Arts & Self-Defense Concepts , he trained the next generation of competitors at his studio in Hamilton, NJ. Ed’s interest in the martial arts did not end with sport and traditional martial arts training. He was a passionate self-defense instructor who stayed on the cutting edge of his trade by incorporating the real world self-defense concepts of both the C.O.B.R.A.™ Self-Defense System and Progressive Fighting Systems - Rapid Assault Tactics. Ed had also been a dedicated firearms enthusiast. Through the NRA sponsored programs, he taught civilians the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to safely handle firearms. Ed was an avid Steelers fan and loved to spend time with his family. Whether it was riding rollercoasters, spending time on his mountain property in PA fishing and hiking, going to the beach or just sitting by the pool, he had a love for life and everyone around him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Gregory the Great Church, 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Sq., NJ. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1200 Cedar Ln., Hamilton, NJ. Family and friends may call on Tuesday evening from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Wednesday morning from 8:00 am to 9:00 am at the Hamilton Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 2365 Whitehorse-Mercerville Rd., Hamilton, NJ 08619.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made payable to “Ed’s Kids Education Fund” c/o 660 Paxson Ave, Hamilton, NJ 08619.
