George E. Kauffmann, 77, of Keansburg, passed away on Wednesday March 2nd, at the Hospice Unit at Monmouth Medical, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 16th 1933 in Atlantic City, to Mina Fowler. Giving up for adoption in 1936 and placed in St. Michael's Orphanage in Hopewell NJ. Adopted by George and Mildred Kauffmann and was raised in Keansburg and Miami Florida. He attended St. Ann's grammar school and R.B.C. high school in Red Bank, class of 1951. Served in the US Army in 1953 to 1955. On February 20th 1954 he married his High School sweetheart Ruth Keelen and had 10 children. He lived in Keansburg from 1937 to 2004 where he owned and operated the Centre Hotel, which his parents opened in 1921. George served as mayor and councilman for 25years and also was an honorary member of the Keansburg Fire Department. At age 50 he found his birth mother Mina Fowler in Haddon Heights New Jersey. He was able to spend 20 years with her before her passing. He was also pre-deceased by his parents George and Mildred Kauffmann. His two baby grandsons Vincent DeLucia and Trevor Sullivan and his sister Mildred Kauffmann. Surviving by his loving family, which he adored. His loving wife Ruth Keelen Kauffmann who just celebrated 57 years of Marriage on February 20th. His 10 children, daughters and sons in-law George and Mary Kauffmann, Judy and Barry McBride, Susan and John Taggart, RuthAnn and Bobby Sullivan, Michael and Jo Ann Kauffmann, Mary and Jimmy Donnelly, Timmy and Elissa Kauffmann, Milly and Vinny De Lucia, Kevin Kauffmann and Nancy and Ronald Taylor. His grandchildren Lauren, Katie, George, Danielle, Ericka, Michelle, Sarah, John, Shealyn, Riley, Rory, Michael Kauffmann and his wife Petrina, Dennis Kauffmann and his wife Jesse, Ryan Kauffmann and his wife, Jen, Jade, Kara, Elizabeth, Deanna Cetrulo and her husband Sal, Madison, Sean, David, Morgan, Ronald, Shane and Paige. His great-grandchildren Michael, Nicholas, Taylor, Salvatore, Bailey and Joseph. His neighbor and general manager Corneilus “Connie” Clifford. He swam around Manhattan Island 12 years in a row for various charities and causes such as Special Olympics, Blind Men's Association, Agent Orange, POW MIA, and for Special Needs Children He was known as the Marathon Man breaking previous records. Record Breaking Swim form Battery Park New York to Sandy Hook New Jersey. He was a True Humanitarian and a kind and gentle soul. We would like to thank St. Barnabas Hospice for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St Barnabas Hospice 300 Second Ave. Long Branch, New Jersey 07740. Family will be accepting friends on Sunday from 2-9 PM at the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Ave. Keansburg.
