Hugh Shields Obituary

Hugh P. Shields, 98, of Cliffwood, passed away on Monday, June 22nd, at home. He was born in New York City, lived in Keansburg, prior to moving to Cliffwood in 1973. Hugh was a loan officer for Federal Home Loan Bank; he was the co-owner of the first bar in the Bronx with his brother in-law. In 1943 he opened Shields Tavern until he sold it 1948, Hugh left the bar and went to work for ITT; he opened another bar Shields Tavern and Restaurant until 1968. Hugh was pre-deceased by his wife Mary J. Shields in 2001; Three brothers James, John and Francis Shields and his sister Mary Shields. Surviving are his Three brothers Luke Shields of Florida, Thomas Shields of Keansburg and Eugene Shields of New York; his sister Eileen Woods of Verona; His niece Tara Leonard of Hazlet and his special friend Sue Sinka of Laurence Harbor who were his care givers; Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Family will be accepting friends and family on Wednesday at 10:15am, St. Ann’s Church, Keansburg. Burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
