John Keelen
John “Jackie” E. Keelen, 49, lifelong resident of Keansburg, passed away Friday, Feb 26, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Jackie, was born on July 27, 1960 to Wilma and Jackie Keelen in Red Bank. He along with his sisters was the owner of Jackie Keelen's Bar and Liquor store, Keansburg. He attended St. Ann's School, Keansburg and graduated Keansburg High School on the National Honor Society. Jackie was always involved in sports during his high school years and was on the 1976 Keansburg Titans State Championship football team. His senior year, he was the captain of the football and baseball teams and was awarded “Outstanding Athlete of the Year” in baseball. Jackie also took pride in being a fireman in Keansburg with The Keansburg Fire Co. #1 since 1978, and holds the postion of Financial Secretary and has also served as one of Keansburg's Fire Commissioners. Jackie severed as treasurer of the Keansburg Chamber of Commerce for many years. He was a communicant of St. Ann's Church, Keansburg, and devoted many years to the youth of Keansburg, from coaching Pop-Warner football, to being instrumental in the development of the Keansburg Baseball and Softball League and in the creation of the Keansburg Soccer League, serving both leagues as treasure and coach. He also was the Commissioner of the Northern New Jersey Babe Ruth Softball League. Jackie was predeceased by his parents, Jackie Keelen in 1991, Wilma Boyd Keelen in 2002 and his nephew, Michael Robinson Keelen in 1999. Surviving are 4 sons and daughter-in-law: Jack and Natasha Keelen of PA, Joshua Keelen of West Keansburg, Kyle Keelen of Keansburg, and Patrick Robinson Keelen also of Keansburg, a daughter: Brandi Keelen of Keansburg, 2 sisters and brother-in-law Deb Keelen of Washington and Suzy and Anthony Lee of Keansburg, and his granddaughter: Mairin, 3 neices and nephew-in-law: Shannon and Michael Harms, Kristen Truax, and LeeAnn Wolf Keelen, and his loyal companion Bear. A private cremation took place at Monmouth Memorial Park in Tinton Falls. On Thursday March 4 there will be a Mass held at 10:15 am at St Ann's Church, Keansburg. In Lieu of flowers the family is requesting donation be made in Jackie's memory to the Keansburg Fire Co. #1. Letters of condolences can be sent to www.jacquelinemryanfh.comObituary
