Raymond Cann
Raymond V." Sparky" Cann, 72, of Keansburg, passed away on Tuesday, September 19th, at home. He was born in Newark, lived in Hillside, prior to moving to Keansburg in 1970. After serving a 4-year, tour of duty in the United States Navy, on the USS Little Rock. Raymond secured a position in the Outside Plant Test Set Design Department then what was Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey. In 1970 he moved to Keansburg and commuted to and from work. His interest in environmental issues led to membership in Monmouth County Friends of Clearwater (MCFC) and election to the board of directors and finally as president of the Friends. He held the position of Treasurer for 10 years, which included Head of Finance for the annual Clearwater Festival at Sandy Hook, New Jersey. In 1996 Raymond was appointed to the first Keansburg Environmental Committee and served as its chairman for 3 years. Since MCFC is a member of the Monmouth County Arts Council he was appointed by the MCFC board to be their representative with voting privileges to the Arts Council. In June of 2000 he retired from the External Standards Department of Lucent Technologies in Holmdel, New Jersey but did not stop being active. Raymond became an active member of the Keansburg Historical Society and a volunteer in both the Tree and Beautification Committee and the Friends of the Keansburg Waterfront Public Library. This year as people talked of increasing arts related activities in town he decided to join in this project. He is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews all over the country and his dear friends around Keansburg. "What tomorrow brings, we can't be sure, only that what we do now; will surely influence the future.” - Raymond Cann Family will be accepting friends on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Ave. Keansburg. On Friday there will be a 10:15am Mass at St. Ann’s Church, Keansburg. Burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.Obituary
