Victor A. Torchia Obituary

Victor A. Torchia “Torch”, 79, died peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2017 with family by his side. Vic was born and grew up in Long Branch, raised his family in Little Silver, and resided for the past 20 years in Tinton Falls. Vic served in the US Coast Guard before attending Monmouth College and later earning his MBA at New York University. His career in banking and finance started at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and eventually led him to extensive travel around the world for several major financial institutions as well as his own executive search business. Vic was best known for his clever wit, great humor, colorful tales, and was careful to not let facts interfere with his masterful story telling. Those who knew him fondly referred to him as “The Mayor”. This was due to the fact that there was no place he could go that he didn’t know someone already or was prepared to start a riveting conversation, with a temporary stranger, about anything from politics to parachuting. He had a passion for sailing, skeet and trap shooting, was an avid reader, a movie buff of the true old classics and loved his various collections that ranged from time pieces to decoys. His variety of dogs and cats throughout his life held a special place in his heart and led him to spend years as a member of the Monmouth County Kennel Club. Vic was a fashion icon with the signature upward turned collar of a golf shirt layered with a select multi pocketed safari vest, a pipe, reading glasses draped around his neck, sunglasses on the head and a pair of tailored jeans. The suave look was second only to his lifelong quest for the elusive perfect spaghetti and meatballs, which took this connoisseur on any given weekend afternoon, to leading a parade throughout Monmouth County on his Harley. Vic adored his wife, his three sons and grandchildren and often boasted about their numerous achievements and adventures. The man, the myth, the legend, will be truly missed! He was the son of Anthony and Beatrice Torchia. Surviving are his wife Linda, 3 sons and a daughter-in-law, Kevin, Keith, Karl and Sue Torchia, 2 brothers and sisters-in-laws, John and Linda Torchia, Ted and Alicia Torchia, 5 grandchildren, Maggie, Dean, Kase, Kampbell, and Kassidy and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4th from 11am to 2pm with Words of Remembrance at 1:30 pm at Jack’s, 149 Brighton Avenue, Long Branch, NJ. In remembrance of Victor Torchia, those who wish may make contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908. The family invites you to leave a letter of condolence, light a memorial candle or make a memorial donation by selecting the appropriate tab.
