Mildred (Millie) Cornelia Kaiser July 22, 1925-April 20, 2017 On April 20th, 2017, Millie Kaiser, nee Andreassen, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; three children – Janis (Kevan), Gary (Lucinda), Paul (Rose); four grandchildren – Matthew, Melissa, Dylan and Delmar; and one great grandchild – Gwen Millie. Millie is also survived by her younger sister, Elsie. Her older sister Jorgine passed away in 1988. Born on July 22, 1925 in Fairfield, Connecticut on the estate of BB Jennings, she grew up in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Millie was proud to say she was in the first graduating class of Fort Hamilton High School and from there went on to work for the Standard Vacuum Oil Company as Secretary to the Treasurer. Millie met her husband Joe at a young people’s group dance at Marble Collegiate Church in New York City, and regularly attended Pastor Norman Vincent Peale’s services. She often referred to Pastor Peale’s book and sermons on “the power of positive thinking”. She became a full-time homemaker when her daughter Janis was born. Millie and Joe had a summer house in the Lake Shawnee community, located in northern New Jersey. Millie and her three children spent many fun-filled summers at the lake, with Joe visiting every weekend. They welcomed friends and family to Lake Shawnee throughout the summer – no crowd was too large for Millie’s signature hot breakfast and Joe’s afternoon cookouts. After 36 years in Brooklyn, Millie and Joe moved to Green Briar II in Brick New Jersey. Their retirement years together were spent making new friends, traveling, and staying active in the Greenbriar community. She loved to play bingo, attend social gatherings, and “go for a drive” to explore the area. Millie also learned to paint, with much of her artwork displayed in their home. Millie and Joe made many road trips to visit their children, friends and other family members. From Iowa to Mississippi to Atlantic City, they were always on the go and loved to take road trips together. She also had the opportunity to trace her roots in Norway, visiting the places where her mother and father lived before they emigrated to the US. She loved her Norwegian heritage, and shared that passion with others. Millie also had a passion for public education, and was active in the local community school board, attending meetings regularly and advocating for a quality education for her children and the broader community. She was actively involved in the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, attending Sunday services regularly and serving as a member of the Friendship Circle along with her two sisters and other women at the church. They organized many church events, enticing fellow congregants and community members to attend with Norwegian delicacies and a warm and welcoming hearts. Millie was a wonderful cook, committed to preparing three meals every day for her family. She also cared for her mom for many years, nourishing and spending many hours together along with her sisters Elsie and Jorgine. One of her dinner specialties was Norwegian meatballs. This legacy lives on as she shared the secrets of her gravy making with her children! Her grilled cheese sandwiches were also a family lunch-time favorite. Millie cared deeply for her many friends, many of them lifelong, her family, and was devoted in every way to her husband of 66 years. She selflessly gave to all the loved ones around her. She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. Millie will be interred in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army, Bay Ridge Corps. Arrangements are under the care of Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan.
