Thomas Nestor

Thomas J. Nestor, 79 of Sea Girt passed away peacefully on Sunday June 2, 2019 with his loving family by his side. Tom will always be remembered for his wisdom, generosity and unique and witty insights on life and business. Tom was born on September 3, 1939 and raised in Washington Heights, New York City. He was a long-time resident of Sea Girt, NJ and Jupiter, FL. He was the third of four children born to Thomas P. and Mary (nee Finn) Nestor from County Mayo, Ireland. Tom received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Manhattan College in 1963. Tom also attended Pace University and earned his license as a Certified Public Accountant in 1969. Tom retired as Managing Director from Lehman Brothers in 1999 after 23 years of service. He was well liked and respected by his colleagues and especially by the members of his own team. Tom loved playing tennis and golf and the also liked the challenges of investing in the market. He enjoyed playing chess and Scrabble and teaching these games to his grandchildren. Ultimately, his greatest pastime was time spent at home with his family and a house full of talking and laughter. He was an active parishioner of St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt, NJ and St Peter Catholic Church, Jupiter, FL. He was also a former Knights of Columbus member in each church. Tom was predeceased by his parents, a brother Robert Nestor and a sister Barbara Nestor. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Bernadette (nee Cunningham) Nestor of Sea Girt; his three loving children: daughter Christine Nestor S Detweiler and her husband John of Summit, NJ; a son Thomas Nestor and his wife Maria of Madison, NJ; and a daughter Laura Nestor of Jupiter, FL; his three treasured grandchildren Jack Detweiler, Caroline Nestor and Christina Nestor. Tom is also survived by his brother John Nestor of New York City and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday June 9, 2019 from 1-5 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals 2643 Old Bridge Road Manasquan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 am on Monday, June 10, 2019 at St. Mark’s Church 215 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt, NJ 08750. Entombment to follow at St Anne Mausoleum, 1610 Allenwood Road Wall, NJ.
