Andrew Cornelius Boyd Obituary

Andrew (Andy) Cornelius Boyd was born in Middlesex, Virginia on February 23, 1926 to Rozzie (Rose) Blanche Cooke and Andrew Boyd. He served honorably in the Philippines in WWII. He was so honest and trustworthy he was often asked to hold the money of other servicemen because he did not drink or gamble. Andy’s nickname was “tank”, and he was a man among men known for his muscular build and talent with his hands. He was old school when it came to devotion to his wife, and he did not tolerate disrespect. He gave respect and expected in return! He was a legend in the community for once knocking a horse down with his fist. He built two homes from the ground up virtually alone. He had a blended family totaling eleven children when he married Diane Boyd almost 40 years ago. He became a member of the Weymouth/Mays Landing community in the 1950’s and loved the rural lifestyle. He worked at Franklin Smelting in Philly as a crane operator and traveled 100 miles a day for 40 years. He worked 18 years straight without missing a day and was one of only a handful of black crane operators. Andy traveled the world with his wife Diane. They were devoted members of the Seniors of Newtonville group. He was a legend in his family, telling great stories of his trials, tribulations, and triumphs. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Diane and his step-son Troy, who was there for him right to the end, and had a special father-son relationship with him ever since he married his Mom Diane. He also leaves to mourn him four daughters and five sons and stepsons. He will also be missed by his special granddaughter Scot-disha Snowden and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grands. He had a special relationship with his mother Rozzie (Rose) and spoke of her and missed her until the day he died. Thanks to my best friend Barbara Hannah, The Seniors of Newtonville, and AtlantiCare Hospice who helped make the journey home easier for him and I. He went peacefully and painfree and for that I’m forever grateful. A special mention to my son, Troy Snowden, whose undying love for his dad and me made me know I was not alone and whose support I will never forget. My husband died in our home on the land he loved with my son Troy and I at his bedside.
