Obituary
Daniel Patrick Ball (Pop) - 77 of Mays Landing passed away suddenly at his home on November 2. Dan was born in Philadelphia on December 8, 1937. As a child he had aspirations of becoming a farmer, but decided at the age of 19 to join the Marine Corp Reserves. He later went into Active duty and spent 3 years of his life traveling abroad with his fellow Marines. Daniel met and married Mary Alice McCarty in 1960. Together they raised 5 children. Dan started his career as a private detective and spent the remainder of his life involved in the professional laundry industry, eventually as owner/operator. Dan was also proud of his membership in the Knights of Columbus, rising to Grand Knight and as the Chaplin of the local Marine Corps League.
An avid fisherman and at home chef he enjoyed the days when he could (try and not catch any) fish and is best remembered by his family for his famous cookouts and in house bugle led parades. Throughout his professional career, Dan always kept an eye out for promising young men and women, giving sagely advice and work to all he could, with many rising to careers in law enforcement, political offices, and as university professors. Dan was most happy when engaging in philanthropy work including: running the St. Mary’s carnivals and Toys for Tots, serving as honor guard, Chaplin of, and heading the scholarship fund for the Marine Corps League.
Daniel was predeceased by Raymond Ball, Anna ball, Mary Alice (Midge) Ball, Joseph Ball, Joseph J. Ball, and Marialice Ball. He is survived by Daniel Kevin Ball, Rita Ball, Kathleen Snore (Ball), and his grandchildren Joshua Snore, Stephany Laquitara, Joseph Marianna, Jacob Snore, Sean P. Marianna, Dominic Marianna, Alec Rodriguez, Ryan Kaulfers, and Mason Kaulfers. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.
