Dennis Ashby Obituary

On Monday, March 31st, 2014, Dennis Ashby passed away peacefully at Inspira Medical Center. Dennis was a companion, father, and grandfather. No matter the challenge, he always strived to be happy and at peace with everyone. He was a man that had passion for habit. His habits included Sunday with Sinatra, a good Phillies baseball game and the ability to deliver a bad joke – with grace. Dennis began his careers in the US Navy. He then worked for US Steel, and, seeing what was becoming of steel production, re-invented himself as an upholster through the mentorship of his father-in-law. Dennis went on to own two successful upholstery shops, which later lead to the position he held at the Taj Mahal Casino. Dennis’s passion for “tinkering,” collecting coins, gardening, and constant wit exemplified his belief that happiness is found through the smaller things in life. Dennis will be missed but forever remembered by his companion, Charlene Rehmann and family of four siblings, Ronald, Beverly, Gary and Jim. Dennis is also survived by four children, Mark, Fritz, Denise and Vicky and their children Bethany Ann, Seth, Jacob, Jordan, Siena, Alina, and Franky. A borrowed quote from Frank Sinatra that resonated with Dennis’s theory of life: “I would like to be remembered as a man who had a wonderful time living life, a man who had good friends, fine family - and I don't think I could ask for anything more than that, actually.” In lieu of flowers the family asked for prayers of well-being and fitting donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
