Dorothy Adams Fidler

Dorothy Adams Fidler (“Dot” or “Dottie”) was born November 21, 1922 in Providence, RI, the daughter of Earl and Ann (Wackerling) Adams. When she was a child, the family settled in Westfield, NJ where she grew up and graduated from Columbia High School in 1940. Dorothy attended Green Mountain College in VT and went on to earn her BA in Journalism from Ohio University. She worked as a freelance journalist, and she loved digging into all the details of a story. On February 3,1951 she married the love of her life Robert Kent Fidler (Bob) and they enjoyed a long and happy marriage for 62 years. Over the years, they lived in several different locations in New York and New Jersey and Florida. They enjoyed their last years together in at the Oaks of Mays Landing. They were predeceased by their son, Kent, who was born with special needs. Dot was devoted to his care and was active in advocating for the rights of the people with handicaps. After her husband passed away, Dot was lovingly cared for by her neighbors in Mays Landing and the ladies of the Share the Care Ministry at St. Vincent de Paul Church, and finally by the wonderful staff at the Heritage Assisted Living Facility in Hammonton. Dot loved nature, animals, music and people. She will be dearly remembered for her genuine interest and concern for others and her welcoming and generous ways and her regular correspondence with family and friends. If you would like to honor Dot’s memory in a tangible way, please consider a donation to the ministry that cared for her and brought her through the difficult transitions of aging alone with love and grace. Your gift will allow this love to continue reaching out to others who are alone.
