Edward B. Merlock Obituary

EDWARD B. MERLOCK 56

Edward went to be with our Lord suddenly on November 12, 2015, surrounded by his family. Born to Andrew B. and Anna Merlock on November 25, 1959, Edward grew-up and was raised in the Laureldale section of Hamilton Township. A real-life MacGyver, he found great pleasure working on cars and fixing things that he was told would no longer work. He also enjoyed deer hunting and lending a helping hand to anyone in need. After attending the Atlantic County Vocation School and graduating from Oakcrest High School in 1978, he served honorably as a machinist with the 177th Fighter Interceptor Group, NJ Air National Guard. He was employed as a machinist with Wheaton’s in Millville and Lenox in Galloway Township, but found his calling as a machinist and mechanic with Variety Farms in Hammonton. For twenty years, he kept the trucks, tractors and farm equipment running smoothly, also lending a hand with the annual blueberry harvest. Edward was also a Deputy Conservation Officer with the New Jersey Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife.
Edward was known for having the strength of a bear and the heart of a lamb. He always put others first and possessed a natural ability to be at another’s aid before they could even ask. He cherished each and every moment with the love of his life and best friend, Margaret, and enjoyed time with family and friends. He loved a good joke and his playful smile could brighten any mood.

Edward was predeceased by his little girl, Laura Merlock, father, Andrew Merlock and sister, Linda Lauer. He survived by his loving wife, Margaret, mother Anna Merlock, daughter Katie, brother’s Andrew (Ethel) and Kenneth (Judith), brother-in-law’s John Lauer and Russel (Kathleen) Tolstow, sister-in-law Romona Tolstow (Alfred Maroun) many cherished nieces and nephews, especially his goddaughter Angela Maione, and all the other hearts that he touched in life. He will find rest and be in the company of his many ancestors in the Kingdom of Heaven.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 17th from 6pm to 8pm at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing, NJ. On Wednesday, November 18th a viewing will be held at St. Bernard’s Church, Pennsylvania Ave. & 12th Ave., Dorothy, NJ from 10am-11am, with a Mass at 11am. Burial will be at St. Bernard’s Cemetery immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any charity, so that Edward can continue to help all.
