Ellen Marie Cavilla Obituary

Ellen Marie Cavilla, 60 of Mays Landing NJ passed away peacefully on June 15,2020 after a brief but aggressive battle with colon cancer.

Ellen was born to Joseph & Rita Cavilla in the Bronx, NY where they lived for 10 years. The family made their way to New Jersey and Ellen attended St. Nicholas School in Egg Harbor City. She enjoyed playing basketball and spending time with her family as a child.

Ellen went on to study Cosmetology at Atlantic County Vo-Tech and graduated from Oakcrest High School in 1977, where she was also awarded for her artistic achievements. Following high school she began a very successful career in hairdressing. A trade she would later pass onto her daughter. Ellen settled down in Mays Landing as a single mother and embarked in a career within the casinos. She worked tirelessly during her life. She was certified as a dealer in all casino games and spent 30 years perfecting her skill. She went on to become a supervisor and eventually a gaming instructor in Connecticut.

To know Ellen was to love her, she had a larger than life personality and could fill you up with enthusiasm from a single laugh! She had a heart of gold and enjoyed the simpler things in life. Music, dancing, the beach, camping or out on the water and especially her grandchildren. Walking the trails at Estell Manor Park was her peaceful place where she could truly relax and really enjoy God’s beauty. She also enjoyed cooking and shopping, especially for her family. She was an active member at St. Vincent's Church and will be terribly missed by her family and loved ones.

She is predeceased by her mother, Rita Cavilla.

Left to cherish the memory of her life is her daughter, Christine Hoag (Pete), grandchildren Andrew, Chase, Julianna & Isabella, father, Joseph Cavilla and brother Joseph T. Cavilla, her nephew Thomas Cavilla and many aunts, uncles & cousins.

A celebration of her life will be held at Boakes Funeral Home from 2-3pm (friends) and 3-4pm (family) on June 23,2020. Due to Covid-19 restrictions please be mindful to the times of allowed visitations.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made in Ellen’s honor to the food pantry at St. Vincent de Paul Church 5021 Harding Hwy Mays Landing NJ 08330
