Ernesto Torres Obituary

Ernesto Torres, 81, most recently of Egg Harbor City, formerly of Chatsworth, New Jersey and Villalba, Puerto Rico, went home to our Lord on Saturday, March 6, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 5, 1929 and raised in Villalba, Puerto Rico, Ernesto married the love of his life, Anicasia, on March 12, 1951 and together they raised 10 children. Ernesto came to Chatsworth from Puerto Rico and was employed as a foreman on the Haines and Haines farm for 42 years, retiring back to Puerto Rico in 1992. It was their desire to stay with their children and grandchildren permanently, that returned Ernesto and Anicasia to New Jersey in 2006. He was an avid Phillies fan (when he wasn’t mad at them), loved to read, and was very well-informed about world events. Ga ding, ga ding, ga ding, ga ding. Ernesto was a quiet man with a big heart, who loved to whistle and was always super-proud of all the achievements of his children and grandchildren. Ernesto is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Anicasia, and their 10 children – daughter Lucy Zapata and her husband Rick of Green Bank; son Freddy and his wife Kathy of Chatsworth; daughter Mildred Morales and her husband Jorge of Chatsworth; son Orlando and his wife Hazel of Tuckerton; son Clark and his wife Leslie of Medford; son David and his wife Kristy of Laureldale; son Edgar and his wife Trissa of Michigan; son Uriel (Neida) of Chatsworth; daughter Eva Haines and her husband Michael of Tabernacle; and son Alex and his wife Carmen Santiago of Egg Harbor City. Affectionately called Grandpop, Pampop, Abuelo, and Papa by his 24 adoring grandchildren who will miss him deeply – Eddie and Daniel (Danielle) Zapata; Jonathan (Amanda), Micah (Chelsea) and Sari Torres; Lindsey (Christopher) Hall, Kristina, Stephani and Brandon Morales; Joshua (Jennifer) Torres and Amanda (Thomas) King; Jason (Jessica) Anderson and Jordan Torres; Kaitlyn and Olivia Torres; Nadia and Trevor Torres; Erika and Jessica Torres and Omar Mercado; Timothy, Michelle and Angela Haines; and Juliana Torres; as well as his great-grandson Michael Avery Torres. He is also survived by his brother, sisters, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Visitation and gathering of family and friends will take place at the St. Nicholas Church, 525 St. Louis Avenue, Egg Harbor City, NJ 08215, on Tuesday evening March 9, 2010, from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m., and again on Wednesday morning, March 10, 2010, from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be take place at Egg Harbor City Cemetery, Moss Mill Road & Hamburg Avenue, Egg Harbor City, NJ. Donations in memory of Ernesto may be made to either the Egg Harbor City Volunteer Ambulance Squad 700 Philadelphia Avenue, Egg Harbor City, NJ 08215; or to the Galloway Township Ambulance Squad, P.O.
