Everett Pond Obituary

Born 7/25/1938, Everett was raised in Ludenberg, Vermont, by his parents Martin and Rose. As a young man, he moved to Philadelphia, working originally for Philadelphia life Insurance Company. There he met his future wife, Judy Engel. On January 18, 1964 they married and later that year celebrated the birth of their only child, son James, on December 19, 1964. Everett, Judy, and Jim made their home in the Olney section of Philadelphia. For many years they enjoyed the friendships of their Front Street neighbors, as well as the love of their immediate small extended family - brother-in-law Jim Engel, wife Kathleen, and daughters Kathleen and Maureen. Everett spent most of his working career as an employee benefits manager for Philadelphia Savings Fund Society (P.S.F.S.) He also held a similar position for several years for PREIT prior to his retirement. Over the years, Everett was a devoted fan of Philadelphia sports. He was especially devoted to the Phillies as well as Big 5 college basketball. His longtime love of baseball lead him to passionately become involved in local little league baseball. For two decades he devoted much of his free time to coaching, managing, and eventually becoming president of the Olney midget and teen league (OMTL). His hard work and devotion was honored in 1995 when the league dedicated their newly built T-ball field in his name - officially naming it "The Pond." In the years following his wife Judy's death in 1996, Everett retired and moved from the longtime family home in Olney to his adopted hometown of Sea Isle City, New Jersey. Living alongside his son Jim and his wife Colleen, Everett proudly enjoyed his retirement by the sea. His free time was spent actively involved in his new parish (St. Joseph's) and daily visits to his favorite breakfast house, "Rick's." Mostly, he treasured his time spent with his two grandsons - Matthew and John, teaching them many things including that a "Shave and a haircut is 2 bits." While learning to talk at age 1, Matthew unofficially changed Everett's name to "Padgee." (the result of a one year old's twisted pronunciation of "Grandpop"). The name stuck, and Everett became (and remains) Padgee to all of his closest family members. We love and miss you Padgee. A viewing will be held on Monday 9:30-11 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM, at St. Joseph's Church, 4308 Landis Avenue, Sea Isle City. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to St. Joseph's Church, 4308 Landis Avenue, Sea Isle, City, NJ 08243.
