Florence Cleary

Cleary, Florence M., of Mays Landing, passed away on May 19, 2007. A Mays Landing resident for the past ten years, she was born in Pottstville, PA on June 27, 1931 to the late Jeanette (nee Ruth Fero) and George Anslow. She moved to Atlantic City with her mother in 1947 and met and married her first husband, William Strickland a year later. Retired from Spencer Gifts, she formerly worked various jobs, including waitressing in her younger years at Hyler's Restaurant on the Boardwalk and bookkeeping at Lerner's Dress Shop in Atlantic City. An avid bowler for many years, she also enjoyed collecting "wheat pennies" with her mother. In 1990 she married a long-time friend, Richard Cleary and cherished a six year marriage until his death in 1997. Florence is predeceased by her loving husband Richard, her former husband, William Strickland, daughter Sandi Koch, and sisters Sarah (Betty) Deitrich, Mary McCullen, and Joyce (Charlotte) Riccardi. She is survived by her daughters, Lyn Strickland of Mays Landing, Denise Osborn of Millville, and Jay Daiker of Egg Harbor Township, her brother Charles Koons of Absecon, 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening 7-9 PM at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved Richard in the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor. Burial will be private.
