Francis Smith

Francis J. Smith, Sr., 84, of Mays Landing, passed away on November 30, 2009. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he lived most of his life in South Jersey, most recently in Mays Landing for the past 13 years. He served as a Merchant Seaman for 12 years, including during WWII. After the service he worked for the Riggers Union, Local 161, in Philadelphia until his retirement in 1987. He was an avid fan of the Phillies, Eagles, and Tiger Woods. Preceded in death by his wife Jean H. Smith and son Michael E. Smith, he is survived by three children: Patricia A. Buono (Carl), Francis J. Smith, Jr., and Jean M. Servais (Walter); five grandchildren: Vanessa A. Buono, Christopher A. Buono, Bryanna J. Servais, James F. Servais, and Haley J. Servais; and six siblings: Paul Skipper, Delores, Skipper, Claire Pike, Kathleen Driggs, Helene Buchanon, and Dorothy Johnson. A viewing will be held on Thursday, 9:30 - 11 AM at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Route 50 & 2nd St., Mays Landing.
