JOEL OLIVA - 85, of Pleasantville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 17, 2018. He was born in Holguin, Cuba where his family lived until July 1968, when they immigrated to The U.S.A. Joel worked as a pressman at Kessler Hammonton Park for several years until the factory closed. He then worked for Atlantic County Public Works at a job he genuinely enjoyed, where staff and management honored him with accolades and promotion. He reluctantly retired after 29 years of dedicated service. Joel was a faithful member of The Atlantic County Seventh Day Adventist Church in Northfield where he served as Elder and Church Treasurer for many years. He enjoyed baseball, gardening, cooking, singing and playing the harmonica for relatives’ birthdays. Joel was a very generous, caring Christian who will be forever loved and remembered by his friends, family and neighbors. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Sarah, daughters Isabel Oliva Brown, Damaris Bellezzi, son in law Salvatore Bellezzi, beloved grandson Seth Joel Brown Oliva, sisters Gladys Avila (Abel), Maria Zaldivar (Rene), Neomi Rodriguez del Rey (Juan), Virginia Oliva, Tia Laura Castro and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceded by parents, Angel and Frerida Oliva, sisters, Sara Rodriguez, Gertrudes Segrero, Libia Batista. A viewing will be held on Sunday April 29 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing. A second viewing will be held on Monday, April 30 from 10-11 AM, with a service at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Laurel Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St Jude's Childrens Hospital or Alzheimer Association.
