John Foster, Jr. Mays Landing, New Jersey Obituary

John Foster, Jr.

JOHN B. FOSTER, Jr. …. The ever-entertaining paratrooper/350 ironworker/saddle shop owner/china mold creator/hamburger maker/boater/caregiver/companion, friend, loving father - the one-in-a-million John B. Foster, Jr. - left this world in the early morning hours of Friday, January 12th cussin’ at his fickle, ball & chain oxygen concentrator. His trainers relay that Jack weighed in at a solid 90 pounds; 82 more than he did when he entered the atmosphere in March of 1937, but rest assured, it was 90 pounds of pure charm & character! The EHT/Hobe Sound Marlboro-man quit a century-long habit in the early 2000’s and missed catching his breath with a good smoke and a beer every day since. Jack believed in blue collar hard work, straight-talk, meat & potatoes, taking care of his woman, Steven Segal, spaghetti westerns, Blues, Rock & Roll, hotrod cars and the good ole U.S.A. Jack (aka “The Rooster”) was born in Philadelphia, PA, moved to Margate, NJ as a teenager, retired to Florida but considered the Jersey Shore his home. He was "old school" and young-at-heart --- a tireless, committed member of the greatest generation; a proud paratrooper and cook for the 82nd Airborne. Most recently, he was the adored elf who moved into a “mansion’s” basement on the lake. His most endearing quality was his ability to make others smile and laugh even when his own struggles were mounting. This ladies’-and-man’s man valiantly stepped-up for others to his own peril sometimes and in his last few months, was just beginning to receive dividends back from the children and friends he returned to during his own hour of need. The family of John B. Foster, Jr. thanks all those who assisted in deed, thought and prayer during his journey, especially those in the last months of his life. Jack leaves behind his grieving children; daughters Randie Crawford (Mitch), Jennie Bollinger (Greg), his sons, Roy Foster (Maureen) and Jon Foster. He is also survived by a daughter Robin. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his grandson Brandon Bollinger, as well as his bonus family of Bryson, Chesney & Autumn Bugdon. To carry on their mission, Pop sends a final shout-out of “Airborne Forever!” & “‘40 Fords Forever!” to lifelong friends Kenny Motz, Michael Breslin and Billy Singley. We imagine there’s quite a reunion as Jack is greeted at the pearly gates by his companion of 30 years Boni Mizrahi, beloved parents Mary & John Foster, older sister Janet Shaw and Joanne. On behalf of all lost retirees, he sends a big, fat raspberry to the “mis-handlers” of the Lenox pension files and a one-fingered salute to the bureaucrats at United Healthcare and OptumRX. Arrangements are being handled by Boakes Funeral Home in Mays Landing, New Jersey. Tributes and condolences can be left at www.boakesfuneralhome.com. Services are private as Jack wasn’t one for much fanfare and believed he outlived almost everyone he knew anyway. ☺
