John Jay Kelly, Jr., of Mays Landing on December 9, 2010. Born in Atlantic City, N.J., he was the son of the late John J. Kelly Sr. and Janet Kelly and was a member of Green Tree Church in Egg Harbor Twp. John was a graduate of Vineland High School and received an Associates Degree from Atlantic Community College. He also served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era and was assigned to the USS Liberty during the Middle East conflict in June of 1967. After returning home from the military, John, and three other returning veterans started a rock band and traveled the country looking for fame and fortune. John enjoyed the automobile business and spent most of his life working in management lastly as a regional sales director for “The Auto and Boat Shopper.” John loved to go fast. He raced a stockcar at the Pleasantville Speedway, was a licensed pilot and loved to fly. He also enjoyed golf, fishing and snow skiing with his family and friends and playing his Martin Guitar. John’s unconditional loyalty, loving heart and infectious smile will be sadly missed by his friends and family. He is survived by his loving wife Peggy, two children, Kathleen Costello (Ray) and John J. Kelly III, his sister Kathy Tomasello, three brothers, Daniel Kelly (Doris), Patrick Kelly and Paul Kelly and three grandchildren. Friends and relatives will be received on Monday December 13, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing, NJ with a memorial service at 6:30 PM. Burial will be private.
