John Slobodzian Obituary

John Slobodzian, 91, of Estell Manor went to be with the Lord on October 12, 2015. Born 1923 in Philadelphia, he was a resident there for 50 years. He served as a gunner in the U.S. Navy during WWII on Navy battleships, including the USS Leyte, Hopping, Catoctin, Vermilion and Newman transporting troops and supplies to many countries. His ship supported operation “ANVIL” the allied invasion of southern France. He was retired from Mack Transportation, Phila., PA. John loved the Lord and prayed for others. He was the best loving, caring husband and father. Predeceased by his father Nicholas, mother Mary and brother Michael (Catherine). Surviving is his wife of 65 years Joanna, his children John (Teresa) of Lockport, NY, daughter Betty (Rusty) Tharp of Estell Manor, NJ. Grandchildren Holly Slobodzian and John M. Slobodzian. Brother-in-law Ralph Leibig (Millie). A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing from 11am to 1pm, with at Service at 1pm followed by burial with Military Honors at the Atlantic County Veteran’s Cemetery in Estell Manor, NJ.
