Joseph Ponticello

Ponticello, Joseph B. 50, of Mays Landing, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 28th after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa. He graduated from St. John Neumann High School and attended Penn State University. Joe opened the Playboy Casino as a security officer, where he met his loving wife of nearly 23 years, Barbara. He was a locksmith of Local 623 of the Carpenters Union and was employed with Trump Plaza for the past 23 years. Joe was a lover of animals, especially his canine children Willie, Bridge, Ren and Honey. Joe enjoyed saltwater fishing, spending many summer days on the beaches of Brigantine. He was also an avid bird hunter and was a member of Meadowview Hunting Preserve, Salem, N.J. And no one was happier than Joe when his beloved Phillies won the 2008 World Series. Joe’s kindness and quiet good works touched many in his community, his workplace and especially at home with his family. Joe was a loving and devoted husband, father, son and brother. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara, daughter Caitie, parents Joe and Josephine, sister and brother-in-law Marianne and Matt (Ranieri), as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. Viewings will be held on Tuesday evening 6-9 PM at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing and on Wednesday morning 10-11 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 114 Route 50, Mays Landing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday 11 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 626 N. Shore Rd., Absecon, NJ 08201 or Penny Angels Beagle Rescue. P.O. Box 2161, Ventnor, NJ 08406.
