Karl Von Hess, 90, (Frank Faketty) of Mays Landing passed away on August 12, 2009. During Karl's early career he was an amateur/pro boxer in which he was the U.S. Middleweight Champion under his birth name Frank Faketty. At the beginning of WWII he joined the Navy and, because he was a great swimmer, was placed in the UDT (Underwater Demolition Team) now known as the Navy Seals. During this time he was decorated for his heroic acts and was commemorated in the National Navy UDT-Seal Museum in Fort Pierce, FL. After the war he went back into boxing as a middleweight but soon became a pro wrestler. His career as a pro wrestler went from the 1940's to the mid-70's. He wrestled for the WWWF (now the WWE) and was World Champion during his time. He retired with his wife of 55 years, Lenora Von Hess, and owned Karl-Le Mobile Manor in Cardiff, NJ until 1988 where he continued to teach children how to swim. Karl was known for his love of children, especially his children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Lenora, his son Frank, and daughter Francis. Karl is survived by his sons John Von Hess and John Hoich. Daughters Patsy Bader and Rita Wilson. Longtime caretaker Pamela Gagliano. Grandchildren Erik Von Hess, Kurt Von Hess, Kristina Von Hess, Shane and Lisa Pauls of N.J. Jim and Stacey Kalhoun of Glenwood, IA. Clay and Tracy Major of Tekamah NE. John Kalhoun of Tekamah, IA. Also numerous other children and grandchildren. Friends and Family are invited to attended a viewing on Monday, August 17th, from 10 am to 12 pm at the Boakes Funeral Home 6050 Main St Mays Landing, NJ, where services will be held at 12 Noon.
