Franks, Leon L., 80, of Mays Landing, passed away on June 19, 2009 at his home. Born in Bridgeton, he was raised in East Vineland, and has lived in Mays Landing since 1944. He honorably served in both the US Navy and the US Army. Leon was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, a former member of Knights of Columbus Council #3451, a lifetime member of VFW Post 220 in Mays Landing, and a member of IBEW Local 210. He also served in the Mays Landing Volunteer Fire Department for many years. In his earlier years he worked with his father in the family business, Franks Hardware in Mays Landing. He also worked for Atlantic City Electric Company at the Missouri Avenue and B.L. England Generating Stations for 33 years until his retirement in 1986. In his younger years, Leon enjoyed roller skating. Later he enjoyed square dancing with South Jersey Dancers, bowling, and traveling. Leon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alice (Sue) Franks (nee: Treidler); four children: Julie Dixon and her husband Gary of Mays Landing, Anne Goodman and her husband Scott of Mays Landing, Paul Franks and his wife Becky of Henderson, NV, and Mark Franks and his wife Cheryl of Egg Harbor Twp.; 11 Grandchildren: Brian (Sharon) and Andrea; Brooke Jessica, and Rachael, Angela (Ryan), Cory, Justin, and Stephanie, and Matt and Renee; one great-grandchild: Mackinzie; his sister Eleanor (Charlie) Leek; and several nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held on Monday, 9:30-11 AM, at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, 11:30 AM, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Route 50 & 2nd St., Mays Landing. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing.
