Louis Houmis Mays Landing, New Jersey Obituary

Louis Houmis

Louis Konstantinos Houmis was born on October 15, 1933 in Newark, New Jersey. He was in the Navy for two years and was a proud member of the Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959. In 1957 he married Rose Encampo, and together they successfully owned and operated restaurants and motels from 1959 to 1996. Lou was a hard worker, and he could cook and fix mostly anything. Lou was publicly thanked by a Wall Township policeman for saving his life because of Lou’s fundraising efforts to buy bullet proof vests for the policemen of Wall Township. He retired in 1996. Lou loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Senior Center in Ventnor. He was an avid NY Giants fan. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at our Lady’s Center. He is survived by his sisters Angie Dailey, Tina Leno, his brother Nicholas Houmis, his wife Rose, his daughters Christine Shaffer and Michele Houmis, he predeceased son Louis, and his seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. We will miss his quick wit and smile. A viewing and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 25th at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church, 5021 Harding Highway, Mays Landing, NJ 08330. The viewing will be at 10:00 am followed by Mass at 11:00 am. Military burial will follow the mass at Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery at 109 NJ-50, Mays Landing, NJ 08330.
