Mack Harris Obituary

Mack C. Harris, age 83 years of Mays Landing passed away October 17th after a lengthy illness. A lifelong resident of Mays Landing, Mack took great pride in serving the residents of his hometown as a US Postal Service letter carrier for over 40 years. He was stationed in Berlin, Germany with the US Army during the Korean War. Active in the community, Mack was a life member of the Mays Landing Volunteer Fire Company serving as Chief for several years. He was a past president of the Atlantic County Firemen’s Assn. and a life member of the NJ State Firemen’s Assn. He also volunteered with the Mays Landing Volunteer Rescue Squad. Because of his interest and pride in the history and beauty of the area, he became a charter member and Board Member of the Township of Hamilton Historical Society and a Trustee of Friends of the Park (Atlantic County). Interest in World War II history led him to become a Founding Member of the American Air Museum in 1996 in Duxford, England. He traveled many times to visit the Museum which officially opened in 1997. He also traveled extensively in Europe. He was a great supporter of roller skating. He participated in competitive figure skating and dance. Later he obtained his judge’s commission. He often traveled to National and World roller skating competitions. His love of traditional organ music motivated him to learn to play the organ. Mack is survived by his wife of 51 years, his sister Nancy and many nieces and nephews. Services were private.
