Mary Wetzel(nee: Mercanto), 88, of Egg Harbor City, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 16, 2009. Mary was the beloved wife and sweetheart to Frank, her husband of 62 years. She lived most of her life in Egg Harbor City where she and Frank raised two daughters, Marlene Wetzel Dellagatta and Joan Roeske, before moving in with her daughter, Joan, son-in-law William Roeske, and her two grandchildren Jessica Roeske and Heather Roeske of Laureldale. Mary worked for over 30 years as a seamstress. She grew up as one of seven brothers and sisters and is survived by four siblings: Antoinette Pinto, Daniel Mercanto (Mae), Joseph Mercanto (Viola "Babe"), and Rose Montecalvo (John). She was a kind and compassionate woman who brought joy to the lives of everyone around her. Mary will be fondly remembered and profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, 11 AM, at St. Nicholas Church, 525 St. Louis Ave., Egg Harbor City, where a viewing will be held from 10 AM until the time of the Mass. Entombment will be in the Egg Harbor City Cemetery Mausoleum.
