Millie Garofalo Mays Landing, New Jersey Obituary

Millie Garofalo

Garofalo, Millie C. (nee: Caruso), 94, of Brigantine, passed away peacefully at home on July 30, 2010. Born and raised in Buena Borough, she lived on Wheat Road for most of her life before moving to Brigantine 16 years ago. She worked as a seamstress throughout her life and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, currently known as Unite Here. Millie was a dedicated parishioner of St. Michael's Church in Minotola for 78 years where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the N.J. Farm Bureau, where she actively attended meetings and conventions with her husband for many years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, crocheting, walking, and her trips to the casino. Her greatest passion throughout her life was her family; traveling with her husband and daughter, spending time with her siblings, and seeing the light of her life, her devoted grandson Joey. Millie shared 47 wonderful years with her husband, the late Joseph D. Garofalo. She leaves to cherish her memory her two children: Carmela "Candy" Garofalo with whom she resided and Jimmy Garofalo and his wife Becky of Vineland; her grandson Joseph, affectionately known to her as "Joey" and numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, and other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her six siblings: Nancy Sabella, Mary Melli, Virginia Caruso, Pauline Cafarelli, Emily Caruso, and John Caruso. Millie was a strong woman with a deep faith in God who was always willing to help anyone. Viewings will be held on Monday evening 7-9 PM, at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing, and Tuesday morning 9:30 - 11 AM, at St. Michael's Church, 504 Southwest Ave., Minotola, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Tuesday. Entombment will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Vineland. Because of Millie's deep love for children, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Childrens' Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942, www.stjude.org/memorial (Info and condolences: www.boakesfuneralhome.com)
