Nancy Jean Edmunds Mays Landing, New Jersey Obituary

Nancy Jean Edmunds

Nancy Jean Edmunds, age 66, passed away quietly with loved ones by her side. She has battled and overcome a variety of health-related obstacles over her life, but a bout with cancer from several years ago returned and proved to be her match. There will be a service for her Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Valley Friends Meeting in Wayne, PA. As the COVID-19 virus has left their doors still shut, this will be a small outdoor service. Flowers can be sent to Boakes Funeral Home in Mays Landing, NJ through Friday, and donations will be put towards a trust fund for Nancy’s youngest; please reach out to 732-549-9430 to donate. Nancy, a birthright Quaker and descendant of Welcome and Mayflower immigrants as well as Creek Indian heritage, was born to Henry R. and Edith T. Edmunds of Haddon Heights, NJ. She is predeceased by her parents and older sister, Deborah Weaver and survived by brother Thomas, and children, Tyler, Heather (Vince) and Josef (Cindi) and 4 grandchildren, and nephews Matt (Ken) and Chris (Amanda). She lived in Haddon Heights for 9 years before her family moved to Orange Park, FL, for 7 years, and then back to Collingswood, NJ, where she finished her education. During her teen years, Nancy was a proud Girl Scout, achieving every badge that was available to her, and later followed her mother’s footsteps and became a Girl Scout Leader. Her artistic talents presented early. She was a good artist and had a way with mixing colors that made her work stand above other teen’s work. She continued artistic endeavors throughout her life, teaching her children craftwork whenever possible as well. One of her most memorable and beautifully done art pieces was a full-size carousel horse she painted to surprise her mother. As a teen in the late 60’s, Nancy adopted her personality as a down to earth and peaceful soul, and found a nickname that followed her for the rest of life, Poppy. Nancy made lifelong friends as well as meeting her husband in Ocean City, NJ. She remembered fondly her haunts like The Chatterbox. She briefly lived in Germany with her first husband who was in the military, where she had her first child, Josef. Back in Ocean City and single, she eventually married another friend from there with whom she had her other two children, Heather and Tyler. She loved nature and animals. She was the person who would rescue an injured bird, and always had pets, as she was unable to turn away a stray cat. She instilled that nature and scouting love in her children who were all scouts and all enjoyed many fun camping trips with her throughout the years.
