Nicholas Ketschek

Ketschek, Nicholas, 90, of Mays Landing passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on June 6, 2016. He was born in McKee City, the youngest of 14 children and a lifelong resident of Mays Landing. Nick honorably served his country in WWII. He was a Private with the 961st Field Artillery Battalion participating in the Battle of the Bulge and received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with Two Bronze Battle Stars along with the Atlantic County Veteran’s Service Medal. Nick worked for Arthur R. Henry Contractors & Engineers for 35 years as a truck driver moving cranes, backhoes and all types of equipment up and down the state of New Jersey. You name it, he moved it! Always active and physically fit, he enjoyed walking and riding his bike all over Southern NJ. He rode an exercise bike on a daily basis and kept his mind sharp by listening to over 953 books on tape. A devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He was everybody’s Pop-Pop! He is predeceased by his parents Leonard John and Barbara (Pfeiffer) Ketschek, siblings Michael, Peter, Henry, Jacob, Elizabeth, Ann, Mary, Barbara, Frank, John, Leonard, Adam and Eva Kathryn, and devoted wife of 70 years Thelma “Bunchie” Ketschek. Left to cherish his memory are his loving son and daughter-in-law David and Carol Ketschek, granddaughter Kimberly LaPergola and her husband Scott, grandson Brian Ketschek and his wife Wendi, great-grandchildren Kaylee Murray, Danielle and Nicholas LaPergola, Jessica and David Ketschek and many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. A viewing will be held on Friday, June 10th from 6pm to 8pm with a Service at 8pm at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing, NJ 08330. A committal service will be held on Saturday, June 11th at 12:30pm with Military Honors at the Atlantic County Veteran’s Cemetery in Estell Manor, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following charities: Holy Redeemer Hospice, 6550 Delilah Road, Egg Harbor Twp., NJ 08234; The Mays Landing Rescue Squad, 1404 Route 50, Mays Landing, NJ 08330; or National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Attn: Office of the Director, 1291 Taylor Street NW, Washington, DC 20542.
