Patrick McGowan Mays Landing, New Jersey Obituary

Patrick McGowan

Patrick McGowan, Sr. “Uncle Pat”, 76, of Mays Landing, formerly of Absecon, died peacefully at home on Saturday, January 14, 2017. He was the owner and operator of Pat’s Absecon Sunoco Service Station and Pat’s Auto Repair for over 35 years. He took great pride in operating a true service station, not just a gas station. Outgoing and jovial, Pat loved being around people, telling stories and making people laugh. He also enjoyed fishing and trapshooting for which he won numerous awards and trophies. Pat was a longtime member of the Absecon Volunteer Fire Company and served on the planning board. Many Saturdays, you would find him watching Notre Dame football or Villanova basketball. Most importantly to him, was being a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he served on the church council for many years. He is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Elizabeth. Pat is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Edna (nee: Kappes), sons Patrick Jr (Margaret) of Northfield, and Shawn (Laura) of Milton, GA, his daughter Lori Bauder (Jim) of Estell Manor, and his 4 grandchildren which he adored; Patrick III, Thomas, Meghan and Ryan. A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 19th, from 10am-12pm, at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing, where services will be held at 12noon. Burial will follow at the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery of Dorothy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dorothy Vol. Fire/Ambulance Dept., 70 Tuckahoe Rd., Dorothy, NJ 08317.
