Richard BreMiller Obituary

Richard “Dick” BreMiller was born in Sayre, PA on July 29, 1931. Raised in Hyde Park, NY and King of Prussia, PA, he graduated from The Haverford School in 1948 and the United States Merchant Marine Academy at King’s Point, NY in 1953. He served in the US Navy on active duty during the Korean War on the USS Capricornus, then spent many years as a lieutenant in the US Naval Reserve. He furthered his education by obtaining a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Drexel University in 1962, and a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Delaware in 1966. He taught mathematics (and coached the wrestling team) at Episcopal Academy and at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, and was a professor of mathematics at Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA until he retired in 1994. He was a member of Sigma Xi, the honor society for scientific research and engineering, and the Physics Honor Society. His retirement years were spent with his wife Barbara in Lewes, DE, where he had performed his reserve duties while in the USNR. He was a founding officer of the Delaware Shore Chapter of USMMA Alumni and an active member of the Southern Delaware Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. He enjoyed sailing, birdwatching and travelling all over the world. He was very active in his church, Eagle’s Nest Fellowship of Milton, DE and Crossroad Community Church of Georgetown, DE. He especially enjoyed retreats of Camp Farthest Out, where he served on the Council Ring of Hilltop CFO in varying capacities. But most of all he was the devoted caregiver for his wife Barbara for the last 13 years. He faced his final illness with courage and perseverance, and on April 27, 2014 he entered into the joy of his Lord, who says “Well done, good and faithful servant!” He will always be in the hearts of his loving family: his wife of 60 years, Barbara; 2 daughters, Carol (Trevor) Haviland of Woodlyn, PA and Debra (Terry) Toole of Coatesville, PA; sister Nancy (Michael) Black of Brooklyn, NY, sister-in-law Janet Gaylord of San Jose, CA; grandchildren Richard Prokopovits, Timothy (Amanda) Prokopovits, Kathy (Imran) Rehmani, Mark (Eliza) Prokopovits, Ashley Prokopovits; step-grandchildren: Krista Chafin (Robert) and Peter Toole; great grandchildren Alejandro Rehmani, Katelynn and Paul Prokopovits; step-great grandchildren: Carina and Kira; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Charles and both parents. Interment will be a private ceremony in Mays Landing, NJ. A celebration of Dick’s life will be held in the Lewes, DE area later this summer. Our family wishes to thank Dr. Kristy Weber, Dr. Stephen Hahn, Dr. Tracy D’Entremont, all the staff at Tel Hai Health Center and Bayada Hospice (Boyertown office) for their kind and compassionate care.
