Robert Benner Mays Landing, New Jersey Obituary

Robert Benner

Robert (Bob) Lee Benner, 64, of Vineland, NJ, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2017 after a short battle with Cancer. Bob was born in Camden, NJ on April 14, 1953 to Eleanor and William Benner. A lifelong resident of New Jersey, Bob loved many things about the Garden State, except the taxes. Bob was a unique soul with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and had a wide array of interests including: antique collecting, photography, botany, Pine Barrens history, genealogy, Buddhism, and inappropriate jokes. He was an avid nature lover and volunteered his time to work with area universities to collect and identify rare plants throughout the Pine Barrens. Bob worked in the Atlantic Cape Community College (ACCC) Library for the last 20 years which suited his love of reading and helping those around him. His impact to those at ACCC is described perfectly by his friend Janet Marler: “Bob was a true Renaissance man with wide and diverse interests ranging from the arts to botany. Students, staff and faculty benefited from his passion for researching everything from genealogy to medical science. In addition to his keen intellect, Bob was genuinely kind and thoughtful with a quick wit. He will be much missed.” Bob leaves behind his sisters Roxanne Peronne of Oregon and Gina Peronne of Atlantic City, nephew Dylan Sandritter of Oregon, two sons Robert Benner Jr. of Vineland and John Mock of Amherst, NH, grandson, Carter Mock of Amherst, NH, Aunt Donna Shaffer of Pennsylvania, and half brother William Benner Jr. of Orlando, FL. Bob is predeceased by his long-time partner Katie Mock. Bob was caring, funny, thoughtful, intelligent, and quirky and will be missed dearly by family and friends.
